How metal, stone, and restrained type should show up online — type, photography, and the mistakes that make fine jewellery brands look generic. This is a working note from the VicanTheme journal, written for jewellery houses and luxury retailers. The catalog we keep returning to is HTML templates, because files you can host beat a locked builder when the brand has to last.
If you already know the industry, skip ahead to the recommended demo — Aurelia — and use the headings as a checklist rather than a speech.
The atmosphere is metal, stone, and restrained type
Print identity often dies on the web: the paper is gone, so sites overcompensate with animation. For fine jewellery, keep the quiet. Let metal, stone, and restrained type live in photography and margins.
If your brand book says timeless and the site uses bouncing badges, the identity is already broken.
Photography rules that actually hold
Shoot craft process and stone origin. Do not rent stock sparkle overlays and countdown timers. Full-bleed is allowed; watermarks and fake 3D devices are not.
Sequence images like an editor, not a grid app. High jewellery and atelier pieces deserves captions. Captions are identity.
Color and type without costume
One ink, one paper, one gold or accent if the craft needs it. Jewellery houses and luxury retailers can smell a palette copied from a dashboard kit.
Aurelia starts from metal, stone, and restrained type so you are not fighting the CSS. Compare Forge if the sister craft is closer to your next job.
Identity is also the enquiry
A beautiful site that hides private viewing is incomplete branding. The last screen should be as considered as the first.
When you are ready to ship, stay with HTML templates so the files remain yours.
Questions people actually ask
Can I keep my existing logo?
Yes. Aurelia is a layout system, not a rebrand. Replace the mark and the photographs.
Do I need motion?
Very little. A fade is enough. Motion should never delay private viewing.
